“Discover a rich, diverse and unique African culture” at the A Glimpse of Africa festival in Grand Rapids this Saturday

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan (WOTV) – Come to Calder Plaza in downtown Grand Rapids this weekend to celebrate a unique aspect of West Michigan’s African culture.

The A Glimpse of Africa (AGOA) festival returns on Saturday August 14 and the event organizers invite the community to attend this free event for a great cause. AGOA’s mission is to educate and increase appreciation for rich African cultures through delicious food, music, fashion, handmade products and community engagements that meet the needs of people. refugees and African immigrants.

The festival runs from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and offers a unique program of 25 artists and nearly 40 vendors.

Event planners are more than happy to give Michiganders an insight into the various cultures they may not be aware of.

“I would like people to come and experience the rich, diverse and unique African culture. We have fifty-four African countries that we’re going to try to give people a taste of. So I would really like people to come and enjoy that feeling like you are traveling to Africa, but you are here in our city of Grand Rapids, ”said Fridah Kanini, Founder of Glimpse of Africa.

Meet AGOA Founder Fridah Kanini:

“Fridah is the Founder and President / CEO of A Glimpse of Africa and owner of a small
company named Flora’s Elegance event decor. Fridah is also currently a member of
the board of directors of SowHope, a young leader of the African Community Fellowship
church, and a community connector to the Amani program.

She founded the Kenyan community of West Michigan where she was president until 2016. Fridah was born and raised in Kenya, moved to the United States in 2001, then moved to the United States.
Kingdom between 2002 and 2004. Fridah lived, studied and worked in the United Kingdom, the United States and
Kenya. What keeps her going is her passion to serve others, her faith in God and love.
