8th AMVCA to present eight days of fashion, technology, food and African culture

Following the suspension of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the organizers, Magic of Africa and Multiple choice just brought it back with a bang.

This year’s AMVCAs, 8th Edition arrives with eight days of high-end entertainment that will wow the African continent.

ready to hold May 14, 2022the 8th edition of the AMVCAs will be heralded by an eight-day series of events that will feature a celebration of African fashion, technology, food and culture.

The Executive Director, West Africa Content and Channels, MultiChoice Nigeria, Dr. Busola Tejumola, made the announcement penultimate Thursday during a press conference.

She explained that the introduction of the 8-day series of events will bring exciting changes to the awards which had their first edition in 2013.

The eight-day event will kick off with an opening night on Saturday May 7. This will be followed by a first ever AMVCA show in partnership with Bella Naija Style on Sunday May 8.

At Monday May 9 will be MultiChoice Talent Factory Day with film screenings and panel discussions by MTF Academy students.

Magic of Africa will welcome industry stakeholders to a special content market day on tuesday 10 mayand a pan-African food festival and cultural day Wednesday May 11. A Digital Content Creators Day to highlight the growing popularity of online content creators will continue Thursday May 12.

There will be a special gala for the nominees on Friday May 13 while the awards night, which will continue Saturday May 14will crown the series of events.

Speaking on how it all started, she said: “In 2003, the first African Magic Channels were created with a mission to provide entertainment to Africans and by Africans.

“Today, over 15 years later, seven distinct channels have been launched to help drive the growth of film and entertainment in Africa.”

She added that it is also in this vein that the AMVCAs were conceived in 2013 to celebrate the incredible talents of the African film and television industry and the incredible people who do the work in front of and behind the cameras, to encourage them to continue telling authentic African stories.

“One of our goals at Multiple choice was to have a positive impact on the African creative industry and over our 29 years of existence, we have remained true to this vision,” she said.

Tejumola who revealed that Multiple choice invested more $500 million in promoting local content from 2015 to 2021 alone, added that through platforms like AMVCA and Multichoice Talent Factorythe company builds systems that contribute significantly to positively shaping the African creative industry and developing future filmmaking talent that adds significant value to the industry as it grows.

The eighth edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards is presented by Magic of Africa in association with Multiple choice and is proudly sponsored by Amstel Malta.
