Solidify: Norton Rose Fulbright (FMO, BIX Capital)

Deal: Norton Rose Fulbright represented two lenders, Dutch development bank FMO and Dutch impact investment fund BIX Capital, in their financing of carbon credit generation projects managed by C-Quest Capital LLC (CQC) in all of sub-Saharan Africa.

Value: undisclosed

Region: Finance

Key players: Sydney partner Lisa Koch led the multi-jurisdictional collaborative team, which included partners Elisa de Wit and Janelene Chen, special counsel Mary-Frances Murphy, partners Kit Man Cheng, Ian Lam and Gabriel Lim and Sebastian Withers, and attorney Sarah Hilton, with support from partners Katie McDougall and Katie Chung and senior partner Cloudesley Long.

Significance of agreement: CQC is a developer of social impact projects whose goal is to transform the lives of families in poor communities around the world by improving their access to sustainable energy services and clean energy technologies, while combating global climate change and improving the health of people in need.

Projects generate carbon credits, which are sold through the voluntary carbon market and under exclusive offtake agreements with multinational corporations. The CQC has multinational financial institutions and energy companies as co-investors in a number of projects.

Lisa Koch, NRF Banking and Finance Partner, said, “We are delighted to have leveraged our global energy transition expertise from multiple jurisdictions to guide FMO and BIX in this sustainability-focused financing transaction. The ‘cleaner cooking’ project will improve the health and well-being of many women in sub-Saharan Africa and contribute to significant reductions in carbon emissions. »
