Hotel Emiliano

Another example of modernist architecture, the Hotel Emiliano is the work of native designer Arthur Casas. Decor pays homage to Rio’s mid-century heyday, with neutral tones and a minimal approach. One restaurant, Emilie, serves avant-garde French-Brazilian fusion cuisine and features a huge tropical green wall. On the rooftop, a long, narrow infinity pool overlooks Copacabana Beach. Spa Santapele treatments aim to rebalance the body and are based on the three pillars of relaxation, revitalization and detoxification. White linens and tan leather armchairs are found in the rooms, along with Santapele (Emiliano’s own brand) toiletries.

Hotel Santa Teresa RJ Mgallery

A 19th-century coffee farm, Santa Teresa is named after the neighborhood in which the hotel is located, with decor inspired by the property’s heritage. indigenous materials such as burnt cement, lime, wine and golden slate, tropical woods, banana, buritia and bacaba fibers were used in the design. Accommodation is made up of apartments and suites next to fruit-filled gardens, and artwork by Sergio Rodrigues, Studio Vitty, and Rock Lane is featured throughout. The MGallery Collection hotel also has a swimming pool with a view of Guanabara Bay, Le Spa, the Térèze restaurant and the Bar dos Descasados.

Hotel JANEIRO

In 2018, Osklen designer Oskar Metsavaht created JANEIRO, a boutique hotel with 51 apartments. Located in Leblon, a residential area facing the ocean, eco-responsible ownership is all about simplicity (Metsavaht himself created the concept “ASAP” – as sustainable as possible – an ideology implemented on the site) . Materials such as blond freijó wood, travertine marble, pirarucu fish skin leather, and organic cotton linens mingle with circular porthole-style bay windows, wicker hanging chairs, black-and-white photos, and floating stairs. The Little Pool Bar has views of Two Brothers Mountain, while a downstairs bar and restaurant overlook the street. JANEIRO has two other restaurants, one of which serves Japanese tasting menus.

Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro

An urban resort designed to suit all types of travelers, the Grand Hyatt Rio is located in Barra da Tijuca. Backing onto the beach, hotel staff are on hand to provide towels, umbrellas and refreshments. Or guests can venture underground, to a serene spa and fitness room. Across the Grand Hyatt is a large lake, with hills beyond — rooms with this view or the sea can be booked. Like JANEIRO, this place offers a Japanese tasting menu, as well as Italian and Brazilian restaurants. More family-friendly than some of the other big names in town, Grand Hyatt offers a weekend activity program for the little ones.
