IPL 2022 in South Africa? ASC offers cheaper hotels to BCCI and minimal air travel

Mumbai: While the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) is still looking to organize the IPL 2022 season in India, the Indian board is also considering other options keeping the Covid situation in mind. It was earlier reported that Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates have offered BCCI to host the cash-rich league. Now Cricket South Africa has also thrown the hat in the ring. ASC also offered BCCI to host the tournament.

According to a report on Cricbuzz, CSA offered BCCI hotels at a cheaper rate compared to the UAE. The South African board also said travel would be less and only four venues would be used. Wanderers Stadium (Johannesburg), Centurion Park (Pretoria), Willowmoore Park (Benoni) and Senwes Cricket Stadium (Potchefstroom) are the proposed venues.

All four sites comply with international standards and are within driving distance of each other.

With Cape Town as their base, teams can use two stadiums – Newlands and Paarl.

Recently, CSA hosted India for a Test and ODI series. Omicron cases have also dipped in the Rainbow Nation. Now, it remains to be seen if BCCI opts for this.

According to the same report, BCCI would confirm the venue by February 20, and this happens a week after the auction in Bengaluru.
