Opening of new restaurants in London in August 2022 | Hot Dinners recommends

August can be one of the calmest months for new restaurants (the calm before the September storm) – but there are still some strong openings to look forward to.

chelsea – 275 Old Brompton Road, London SW5 9JA

Mirya comes from one of the best Ukrainian chefs, Yurii Kovryzhenko, who had to stay in London due to the war with Russia. He is now opening his own Ukrainian restaurant here, with the intention of having it worked by Ukrainian refugees. Expect classic Ukrainian dishes like Kyiv borscht and chicken, as well as its own dishes like stracciatella zucchini pancakes.

Marylebone – 105 Marylebone High St, London W1U 4RS

This is Bill Granger’s first new Granger & Co in some time, and it takes over a classic space in Marylebone that was once home to Maison Sagne. Expect to eat all day with a menu that features global cuisine with Australian touches. The ricotta and banana rolls, signature dish, will of course make an appearance.

islington – 77 Upper Street, London N1 0NU

This is a new mini food hall in Islington, created by the same people who had success with Shelter Hall in Brighton. It will house four kitchens which will change from time to time. The starting line-up is particularly impressive with Korean cuisine from Tiger and Rabbit, West African flavors from Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen and also food from Big Has and the cult classic Norman’s Cafe.

Canary Wharf – 15 Water Street, London E14 9SB

Opened in Canary Wharf, this restaurant is part of the new Tribe Hotel, which comes from Ennismore (which also owns The Hoxton and Gleneagles hotels). Here it’s billed as a California sun hit in Canary Wharf with US West Coast and East London vibes, including dishes like tater tots with a cacio e pepe topping and the pecorino aioli.

This is the second new Burger & Beyond to open this summer, following an earlier launch in Borough Yards. As always, it’s all about the burgers, with their signature Bacon Butter Burger being a staple. The Soho restaurant will offer exclusives such as an XL Pork Belly Burger as well as a crispy cheeseburger stuffed wonton with burger sauce on the side.

Chinese district – Cranbourn Street, London WC2H 7JH

Four Seasons already has three popular restaurants in Chinatown, and this new opening under The Hippodrome Casino will expand to four. It’s something of a new concept for them, with a design that’s a “nod to old Hong Kong”. Expect their legendary roast duck, dim sum and more.
