The 10 best new restaurants that opened in February

January was filled with new restaurant openings in Dallas, as well as closures of old Dallas favorites. Last month wasn’t quite as busy as January, but we’ve rounded up 10 of our favorite openings.

February began with the opening of the elegant and sophisticated Wits Steakhouse in the Design District. The South African-inspired restaurant joins an already crowded steakhouse scene, but as Observer Writer Eric Mayne said in his first look, “Once the servers get more training, Wits Steakhouse could be the South African gem we never thought we needed.”

Another Dallas steakhouse, Knife, is back open for lunch, but for lunch the restaurant is a more casual concept called Burger Knife. Although a bit pricey, we applaud this burger concept.

Farm + Feed has opened its game-centric restaurant at the Legacy North stores in Plano. The restaurant and bar is an 8,000 square foot space with a post-apocalyptic theme for gamers and geeks and features a menu curated by Riot Games Executive Chef Matt Yuen. On the same day however, Eater Dallas reported on the closure of the nationally renowned Khao Noodle Shop in East Dallas. The Lao restaurant said there was no restaurant left in Dallas, but in his farewell message, the owner said he was not “completely gone”. There’s more hot chicken in our future.

Two bakeries debuted this month. The first is Bresnan’s Bread and Pastry in McKinney. The husband-and-wife duo of Matt and Jenna Bresnan have been cooking and taking orders online since 2020 before finally opening their small storefront on Louisiana Street. They’re only open Saturdays for now and still have a Saturday Design District pickup location, but keep an eye on their website for extended days and hours.

The second new bakery is the popular Doughregarde, a new bakery inside the Village’s Roundhouse Food Hall. In addition to making their own pastries, they also make bread for several other places in the Village, including Meridian’s daily bread, which if you haven’t tried, you should hurry up.

Soulful Tacos on Trinity Mills Road opened in late February.

If you’re craving tacos with a hip-hop and rap edge, Soulful Tacos opened Feb. 25 in North Dallas on the corner of Marsh Lane and Trinity Mills. It is a black-owned establishment with an interior inspired by black culture and drinks and cocktails made with black-owned wine and liquor brands. And good tacos as a bonus.

At the end of February, the Toussaint Brasserie opened its doors in Downton Dallas in the Renaissance St. Elm Hotel. Named for New Orleans writer, producer, and performer Allen Toussaint, the French-inspired restaurant is a classy, ​​chic dining experience that combines French and Asian flavors.

For fried chicken fans, Nashville Hot Chicken’s Hattie B’s has finally landed in Dallas. We were invited to a pre-opening party and the heat is no joke. Hattie B’s is a family business, and the father-son team that runs the chain plans to expand to Houston next year. Don’t skip the sides here.

Speaking of sister locations, Chinese-American spot Hei Hei (pronounced “hey hey”) opened in Lake Highlands from the owners of the popular Cedar and Vine. Hei Hei isn’t ashamed of their creative twist on Chinese food with a heavy American accent, and we highly recommend checking them out.

Finally, the Chicago-themed DL Mack’s recently opened in Park Cities. Although the pizza is not 100% authentic Chicago pizza, the Observer According to Amy Meyer, DL Mack is worth a reservation “if you’re looking for a solid meal in a comfortable upscale tavern setting.”
